Man I thought that those flowers that I had posted a week or so back were the last of them, but my little garden had a couple of surprises left in store. We also harvested our Cannas and elephant ears and were very pleased at the yield. Next year will be quite colorful at the Gante house.

Some Firery Mums doing their thing.

These will be dried and will be next years elephant ears.

If you look closely at this picture, you can see the 5 or 6 origonal Cannas rhizomes that I planted in the spring time. They are the onesa that are dark brown. All the rhizomes that are white or light colored are this years growth. Each of these peices can still be divided further, for even more flowers in the coming year. Guess they found a good place to live ;)

This is some Zebra grass that has actually had a school bus drive over it ( don't ask! ) and still has managed to thrive. So I call it New York Zebra grass!

This past weekend I revisited a website called www.daytrips.org, which list a lot of things to do in upper New York, (great site) I recommend a visit to it. It also lists a lot of ruins and abandoned sites. So on Saturday we did a little excursion to this place, The West Point Foundry Preserve, in Cold Springs NY. The girls loved it. There a bunch of old ruins that are surrounded by a huge park right on the Hudson River. The actual ruins are of a foundry from 1818 during the industrial revolution that was responsible for pipes for the water system in the nyc and guns for the civil war. There is also a office building that is currently being restrored. Therse is a huge teepee in front of the office building that houses the origonal wooden steeple. Some really cool stuff. There are ruins and artifacts all over the place, one can really see that this place was once thriving. Along the water there is a federal bird sanctuary with really nicely maintained trails.

This is the office that will be a visitos center once restoration is finished.
